Top 5 Worst Book Covers

I was going through book covers for my Top 5 Most Gorgeous Book Cover List, then realized that it’s actually far more fun collecting the ones that did not turn out so great (to put it mildly). Now I know this usually has absolutely nothing to do with the authors or their works for that matter. So I am in no way criticizing the books themselves. Let’s just say that it’s unfortunate in some cases how these book covers turned out to be.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

1. Nevermore by Kelly Creagh

While reading this book, I constantly tried to wipe out that book cover from my mind, because no way did I want the male protagonist and romantic lead looking like a constipated pale younger version of Marilyn Manson. What were they thinking putting that guy (or is it a girl) there on the cover?

2. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

I am currently becoming a full-on VA addict, and in becoming that it pains me to see that the book covers of this wonderful series are so terribly tacky. To the point that I almost feel obliged to hide the covers while reading it on the subway/bus. More so, every book has a different face fronting the cover, and none is even remotely looking like any of the protagonists. What’s up with that?

3. Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles

I know some of you like this cover. Me? Geez – I turned red anytime anyone noticed me reading this one out in public. It looks like a cheesy romance novel with emphasis on cheesy. Granted, the book is no Dostoyevsky, but when I’m reading a light romance novel I prefer the cover to be somewhat discreet and not as in this case, be shouting ROMANCE NOVEL!!

4. Bitten by Kelley Armstrong

Well, in this case, the cover actually matched the content, so what can I say? Warning bells sure went off when I decided to pick up this one, yet I was blinded by the many rave reviews I’d seen on various web sites. Since then I’ve been more careful with the Paranormal Romance Genre combined with cheesy covers.

5. Eternal Seduction by Jennifer Turner

Ok, this is one book that I haven’t read yet, but it has been in my TBR pile for a while (hidden behind other books I should add). Yes, this one generates warning bells too, obviously. The cover is really off-putting, like what the heck are they trying to accomplish here? A tacky picture featuring a naked girl with roses? Hmmm… Still haven’t decided whether I should read it or not, my warning bells are battling with rave reviews. I’ll let you know if I do give it a try!

I agree with the covers of “Perfect Chemistry” (it’s not so bad but I am sure they could have made a much better cover for a very enjoyable story)(the guy on the cover doesn’t seems like Alex at all…)(and I don’t see any love or sparks between the two models…) I was thinking about a version of Alex with his gang bandanna and his motorbike…
I actually quite like the cover of “Nevermore”… the cover and your review were the two things who made me want to read the book…
“Bitten” cover is bad and “Vampire Academy” too. I didn’t read the two books but the cover is not helping in making me want to read them.

Yes, I agree, they could definitely have picked another model for Alex on the perfect chemistry cover. He’s not very bad-ass!
And I’m glad you read Nevermore! I know some people like the cover of that one, I guess it’s just a difference in taste.
Finally, I would highly recommend reading Vampire Academy. Bad book cover or not, it is a very good series that only gets better the more you read!
But skip Bitten, that one was terrible!
